Make sure to keep your hands dry while carving. Slippery hands make more mistakes when handling sharp objects.
Carve with the “lid” still on. This will ensure that you don’t make the mistake of cutting with your hands on the inside of the pumpkin. It’s much easier to stab yourself if your hand is on the inside of the pumpkin.
Don’t let small children do any carving. Let them have their fun by taking the seeds out with their hands and getting a little messy.
Make sure you have a sturdy and well lit area to work in.
Don’t use actual candles on the inside, grab a battery powered one and avoid any unnecessary fire hazards.
